
Band Director: Jonathan Wright
Jonathan Wright has been teaching and performing in the Middle Tennessee area for over eight years. He received his B.M. in Music Education at MTSU and has recently completed a Masters of the Arts at MTSU, also in Music Education. He was Band Director at Rose Park Magnet School in Nashville for two years and was the percussion instructor and arranger at John Overton High School in 2005 and 2006. Mr. Wright is now the Band Director for Dekalb County where his responsibilities include directing the high school and middle school bands. He performs regularly with the Murfreesboro Philharmonic Orchestra and is a former member of the 2001 and 2002 World Champion Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Wright is a member of the music honors fraternity Pi Kappa Lambda, the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Percussive Arts Society, and the Music Educators National Conference. His former teachers include
Craig Cornish, Julie Davila, Lalo Davila, Erik Johnson, Terry Jolley, Rick Murphy, Andy Smith, and Dr. Reed Thomas.

In 1996, Kelly Jo Birmingham was added as DCHS Choral Director/Assistant Band Director, making her the first female associated with the band in a Director's position. In 2000, Mrs. Birmingham resigned her Assistant Band Director position to Bruce Cook, but remained actively involved in teaching the Percussion section. She maintained strong connections with the band until 2004. In 2008 Mrs. Birmingham founded the DC – 1 Winter Drumline and Percussion Ensemble. She is currently Assistant Band Director for Dekalb High School and teaches General Music.
